Ostomy Care Workshop for Health Care Aides

Health Care Aides (HCA’s) are the primary caregivers in a variety of different health care settings. Their role continues to evolve and could include assisting with ostomy care. This workshop will assist the caregiver to provide optimal care for the client with a stoma.

The workshop objectives would include:

  • Review of normal GI and GU systems and reasons for an altered anatomy
  • Client’s perspective on body image and psychosocial aspects related to the altered anatomy
  • Discuss different pouching systems and rationale for each specific system
  • “Hands On” experience with Stoma models

Upon completion of the course, participants will gain confidence required to respond and successfully fulfill their expanding roles as Health Care Aides.
