The Preventive Dentistry Program (PDP) provides Registered Dental Assistants (RDA’s) with the advanced training required to perform the restricted activity of limited dental scaling as outlined by the Health Professions Act (HPA). This is done under the supervision and direction of a dentist or dental hygienist at Columbia College. Following successful completion of the Preventive Dentistry Program the student will be able to register with the College of Alberta Dental Assistants (CADA) for inclusion of the expanded duty of limited scaling to their scope of practice.
Admission Requirements
- A practicing Registered Dental Assistant with Proof of Registration and In Good Standing with College of Alberta Dental Assistants (CADA) with all expanded duties, in particular PSR or PRB.
Length of Program
The PDP is delivered part-time over approximately 16 weeks of intensive home-study, lectures, pre-clinical, clinical and practicum experience. In addition, there are exam and debriefing sessions.
