This program develops the essential workplace skills, practices the professional behaviours, and builds the industry specific vocabulary required to secure employment in entry-level roles within the transportation or warehouse industries. 5 weeks of on-the-job training introduces students to the practical and technical skills required for the job.
Anticipated salary range is $15.00 – $18.00 per hour to start.
Example Job Titles in the Transportation Industry Include (but are not limited to): Delivery driver, courtesy driver, shuttle bus driver, and school bus driver.
Example Job Titles in the Warehouse Industry Include (but are not limited to): Assembler, production worker, order picker, and forklift operator
Classes will be interactive and involve learners in group discussions, research, role plays, and presentations. Active participation in class is expected. As learners progress through this program, they will build their confidence levels, gain experience, and increase their ability to perform in real situations. Embedded within the curriculum are job search strategies, industry vocabulary, skills for success (previously referred to as essential skills employers look for) and professional behaviours which will help learners improve their success in the workforce.
Please note learners interested in a career in transportation must have a valid Class 5 Alberta driver’s license upon entering the program. All costs associated with license upgrades are the responsibility of the learner.
This program is funded by Alberta Human Services. Learners may be eligible to receive financial assistance to attend full-time training. Please contact the College at 403-235-9300 for further details.
Tutoring is available to students who have fallen below the minimal pass rate.
Upon successful completion of the program, graduates will receive a Certificate of program completion titled Trades, Transportation and Warehouse. All graduates will be invited to attend Columbia College’s Convocation ceremony.
